Do It Yourself VS Do It Right

First off, this product itself is exactly as it is described. It has everything you need to replace the broken glass on an iPhone 3G or 3GS (I used it for a 3GS), and my screen was working correctly after it was all said and done (the home button is another story - see below).

However, unless you're a pro at fixing iPhones, I would recommend getting the glass, digitizer, and frame together (ex: Pre-installed Kit : Apple iPhone 3G Lcd Glass Screen Cover + Touch Screen Digitizer + Frame + Home Flex Button + Ear Speaker + Tool + Cleaning Cloth) so you can skip the tedious step of heating the assembly to remove the old glass. I made the mistake of getting the home button too warm and it became very difficult to press when I put it all back together. The glass also wasn't flush with the rest of the phone.

Also, I'm not sure why it has the guitar pick. I didn't use it.

A nice DYI product (not for novices)

The product arrived perfectly packaged and on time. The seller website provides enough details and information on how to use the product and replace your broken screen.

One negative issue is the mini-screwdriver. List most of the other reviews mention, the screwdriver is not useful to get the screws out at all! You MUST buy another precision philips (star) screwdriver from else where (I picked up $8 mini screwdriver set).

Watch the video provided by the seller and a few others available online before you attempt. This is not meant for novices who have never dealt with electronics before. The heating step needed to melt the adhesive and separate the screen from the frame is not trivial - it take a lot of time and care. This has the potential to change the shape of the frame and melt away the rubber lining that seals the phone from dust.

If you are intimated by that step and can afford to spend ~$35 you would be better off buying a pre-assembled screen+frame kit.

I must add that the screen itself if pretty nice: good quality, very clear, awesome price. I am happy with product.

Best of luck to you folks!

Saved me money

Overall this was a good product.

The product was of high quality and I managed to get it to work without much trouble using the video on their web site. Definitely watch the video.

That said it is a pretty complex install.

I had the following issues:
- The video showed different led and digitizer connectors than my phone. They were not too hard to figure out.
- There is a small gasket that was broken. I removed the remainder of it, but was not sure what was best to do with it. When I removed it, I did not realize it was the gasket.
- The video might have warned, "When peeling off the adhesive backing, be careful not lift the adhesive."

They might also consider a forum for support. They tend to be faster as you can read other's posts.

Overall, this was a good product. Except for the gasket the phone looks good. I didn't much like the free screen cover. I did not realize it was metallic in color. Hopefully my phone lasts the next 8 months until my contract runs out and most important, it saved me money!

Adhesive tape was missing on purchase

Maybe the first part of the issue is my fault, that I live in Egypt, and I order through a US mailbox, which means with courier this costs around $16-17 on top of the original price, which I would be absolutely happy to pay, in case what I ordered was complete.

When I received the package, the instant I looked at it, I knew something was missing, because I've watched the repair process before purchasing countless times, I actually found out the adhesive tape was missing, which is unlike the extra screwdriver, and the cleaning cloth...is a main component of the repair, if I get rid of that, and decide to use a super glue for instance, it would mean I will not be able to use my frame/home button again, and in a next repair will need to purchase those.

I was wondering, instead of adding a screen protector/3-4 extra tools that are totally useless, and a cleaning cloth, couldn't they have taken the time to make sure that the adhesive tape is included??

Before you guys jump to conclusions, I will not blame the courier, as this is done by Aramex, through my years of online purchase, they were as delicate, and as accurate as can be, all they do is deliver what they receive, so I highly doubt they ever received it.

I am now stuck in a situation, where I will either have to wait for Zeetron to fix this "if they do", which will be taking me 10-15 more days at least "again, if they do"; or to give up my frame and home button and just use a regular glue, which is what I'm gonna do.

CRAAAAP

I try to fix my own things, i'm pretty industrious, and usually succeed, but there is no way to succeed with defective parts!
I installed the replacement "digitizer" successfully but the screen is not recognizing where i swipe my finger. The set I bought was missing the cloth, and the instructions was merely a small piece of paper that only helped as a parts tray. The suction cup was a flaccid piece of plastic. I got great instructions from youtube however.
